Hydrokinesitherapy is an ideal tool for orthopedic, sports, rheumatological, neurological, and neuromotor pathologies, useful in the treatment of spinal, joint, and muscle issues and for all post-traumatic and post-operative stages of the shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle.
Working in water takes advantage of:
- Hydrostatic thrust to reduce the load on the joints;
- Hydrodynamic resistance to increase strength in limb mobilization, enhance muscle work, and reduce the speed of movement execution by training coordination and motor pattern acquisition;
- Water pressure which acts on the limbs to promote blood and lymphatic circulation, venous recovery, and the reduction of traumatic or surgical edema, as well as on the chest, enhancing the work of the respiratory muscles;
- The heat of the water which promotes muscle relaxation, raises the pain threshold, and improves blood flow.
Hydrokinesitherapy is a service recognized by basic health insurances, available by appointment at the Parco Maraini pool, via Massagno 32 in Lugano, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
