Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy

Pelvic floor rehabilitation: personalized protocols in urogynecological, andrological, and proctological fields

The goal of pelvic floor rehabilitation is to improve and/or normalize the tone and elasticity of the tissues in the perineal area. The pelvic floor has various functions: it is responsible for urination and defecation, sexual and reproductive activity, and the support of internal organs (urinary, genital, and intestinal systems).

Given its role, it is fundamentally important to have a healthy pelvic floor. Like any muscle, the pelvic floor needs to be trained to counteract its natural decline with age (typical problems of incontinence, sexual or hemorrhoidal dysfunctions) and rehabilitated in case of prolapse or laceration, for example, following stresses such as pregnancy and childbirth.

When dysfunction in this area occurs, a physiotherapeutic rehabilitation path can be undertaken to restore functionality. Kinetic Center offers the possibility of starting a urogynecological or proctological pelvic floor rehabilitation path, which includes manual rehabilitative processes or the use of electromedical devices, active or passive treatments with protocols personalized for the patient.

Among the therapies offered in our center are:

  • Manual therapy: passive stretching of tissues, Trigger Points treatment, and mobilizations for the specific treatment of pelvic floor tissues.
  • Therapeutic exercise: awareness exercises of the pelvic-perineal area in various facilitating positions combined with proper diaphragmatic breathing.
  • Biofeedback: an electromedical device that, through the use of endocavitary probes or external electrodes, provides immediate visual feedback on pelvic muscle contraction and relaxation activity, thus offering an incentive and confirmation of correct pelvic activation.
  • SEF Functional Electrical Stimulation: which involves applying electrical current to stimulate the pelvic floor muscles and their nervous system, with the aim of inducing a therapeutic response or modulating lower urinary tract functions or sexual dysfunctions with stimulation via endocavitary probes.
  • TENS: Internal endorphinic electrostimulation with an endocavitary probe aimed at reducing pain symptoms at the pelvic floor level.
  • TTNS: stimulation of the posterior tibial nerve near the ankle with superficial electrodes aimed at improving conditions such as overactive bladder syndrome, fecal incontinence, and pudendal neuralgia.
  • Tesla Care Functional Magnetic Stimulation: a non-invasive and painless electromagnetic induction therapy that acts on the pudendal nerve used for the treatment of all pelvic-perineal dysfunctions.

Additionally, it is possible to undertake a pre, during, and post-pregnancy support path where our therapists will be able to help resolve pregnancy-related dysfunctions with manual therapy, strengthening exercises, personalized Pilates sessions, and provide advice to live the 9 months of pregnancy in total serenity.

Our specialized physiotherapists conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the dysfunction and, together with the patient, define the objectives and the treatment to be undertaken by building a personalized rehabilitation path.

Urogynecological, proctological, and andrological rehabilitation is a service recognized by all basic health insurance companies and is aimed at users of all ages (pediatric, developmental, adult, and elderly patients). At Kinetic Center, dedicated, reserved, and welcoming clinics with modern and discreet technologies are available for personalized treatments, in total respect of privacy.
