Geriatric Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for the Elderly: Prevention, Rehabilitation, Education, and Continuity

Geriatric physiotherapy takes care of people who, with advancing age, present disorders of the cardiovascular, muscular, skeletal, and neurological systems. In old age, the incidence of neoplasms, the degeneration of motor and cognitive faculties, acute and chronic pain states, and conditions that heavily affect the quality of life of the patient and those around them increase.

Geriatric physiotherapy is therefore aimed at elderly people who may be affected by both acute conditions (trauma, post-surgery) and chronic conditions (disabling, cardio-respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, rheumatological pathologies). Our therapists support the healing and maintenance process with targeted treatments, manual therapies, instrumental therapies, and physical therapy depending on the intervention, trauma, or pathology. In the preventive field, our therapists aim to improve the patient's quality of life, reduce the risk of future falls, learn ergonomic strategies, and maintain a good general state of health.

In geriatric physiotherapy, multidisciplinary prevention and recovery pathways consider the patient's well-being as a delicate balance to be responsibly analyzed from every perspective. Treatments, available both in our offices and at home if movement is impossible, include manual and instrumental therapies, as well as targeted, progressive, and personalized exercises to increase muscle strength, joint flexibility, bone density, and respiratory capacity. Pathways are always individual and personalized.

Through postural, motor, and ambulation exercises, the ability to perform daily gestures is recovered, balance and stability are increased, trauma is prevented, and post-operative rehabilitation is facilitated. The patient, relieved from pain and with greater autonomy, regains self-esteem, serenity, and rediscovers the pleasure of life.
